UISCE BEATHA - blown, engraved and enameled glass; wooden stool; doilies; LED. 2017

Uisce Beatha, directly translated from Gaelic to “water of life”, is a common name given to whiskey in Ireland. Superstition on the island of Ireland has a long history, especially regarding the Sidhe, or fairies. The fairies were, and in some cases still are, feared and respected, most notably throughout the working class community. One such superstition was to always leave a drop of whiskey or milk remaining in your bottle or cup and to leave the embers still pulsing in your hearth. These small gestures were seen as offerings to the Good People and an assured way to avoid their more malevolent tendencies.
